FatherhoodGuide Sometimes, inspiration comes from the most obvious of places. 
Superman has always been a major source of inspiration for me, from comics to movies to TV shows.
On the most obvious level, who wouldn’t want all of his powers? Flight, super strength, speed, bad-ass heat vision and more. While his powers have waxed and waned since his debut in 1938, the fact that he has super powers has been a constant.
On another level, he is the last of his people, sent from space to make a home on Earth. Who doesn’t feel a little bit…alien…from time to time? Nobody understands the world the way each of us does individually. When looking at someone who actually IS an alien, it all seems a little bit easier.
In that same vein, the secret identity was so intriguing to me as a kid. The fact that somebody could split their personality depending on where they were or who they were with was mind-blowing. [Note - I have no secret identity. I couldn't pull it off. One identity is more than enough for me.]
But, most importantly, Superman’s biggest power wasn’t his abilities, but his innate sense of right vs. wrong and the responsibility to do something about it. Whether it was a bum husband (in his Action Comics #1 debut) or alien invasions (there have been hundreds over the years), he made the tough, proper call. And got the job done.
When you take away his powers, his judgment, decision-making and character remain the same, proving that the abilities aren’t what makes him super.
And that why Superman is a Thing I Want My Future Child to Like.
